The next CCS example in SE Asia to be discussed is the BP Tangguh project in Indonesia. A giant depleted gas reservoir is planned for carbon sequestration along with Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR). Significant CO2 emissions from the LNG facilities will be captured and injected into the nearby Vorwata reservoir.
Some very good projects are being developed in South East Asia involving high CO2 gas reservoirs and the use of Carbon Capture and Storage of these potential emissions in nearby depleted gas reservoirs. The first example is Repsol’s Sakakemang project in Sumatra Indonesia.
In the right circumstances, CCS and EOR can be linked to sequester significant amounts of CO2 (up to ~100mmscfd / 2 MTA) and extract additional amounts of residual oil (up to ~50mmbo in some places). Finding the right large low BTU reservoir and then locating a large residual oil reservoir […]
Another example of where experience with utilising CO2 injection to facilitate Enhanced Oil Recovery has also helped advance confidence in carbon sequestration technologies and storage integrity monitoring.
