Hydrothermal Volcanic Geothermal Energy (9/12)

  • Exergy’s equipment at GreenEco’s Sarayköy plant in Turkey utilises their proprietary ORC system called Radial Outflow Turbine (ROT).
  • This system is designed to convert geothermal heat into electrical energy efficiently. In the Sarayköy plant, geothermal water with temperatures 130-170°C is extracted from depths between 1,600 and 2,400 meters. This hot water transfers its heat to a secondary organic working fluid within the equipment via heat exchangers. The vaporized organic fluid then drives a turbine connected to a generator, producing electricity. Afterward, the cooled geothermal water is reinjected into the reservoir.
  • Some features include:  (1) the radial outflow turbine expands fluid radially outward rather than axially; (2) higher efficiency at medium-to-high geothermal temperatures due to better energy extraction per stage (up to 9 stages on a single disk turbine); and (3) uses regenerator to recover heat, improving overall efficiency, especially in higher-temperature applications.
