Energy Security is significantly impacted by issues with approvals. As the Energy Transition progresses, the time it takes to get large renewable projects approved has lengthened considerably. As approval times lengthened, projects became more exposed to inflation of costs where economics were threatened. Some auction prices were too low to achieve financial close given these cost increases. Wind turbine suppliers have had significant losses and wind projects have been delayed. Stakeholders who have decarbonisation aspirations (that in some cases have been regulated) need to understand the necessary underlying physical progress is jeopardised. In the meantime, some individual energy users are turning to Distributed Energy Solutions to provide their own economic, clean energy.
