Geothermal Progress

Geothermal Energy is attracting more attention as the industry progresses with technical and commercial advances and good new projects:

  • Shallow Geothermal is used for heating and cooling
  • District Heating is used for heating
  • Deep Geothermal is used for electricity.
It is important to remember that global energy use is about 50% heating/cooling and 50% electricity, so decarbonising both is important. Geothermal is well suited for Distributed Energy Solutions also. Depending on a particular geological play location, sufficient heat for electrical power generation may actually be available much shallower depths in some cases (e.g., volcanic geothermal).
